Kriesche Glassware

Frank Kriesche, a German immigrant from Bohemia , operated a glassware store on Mackinac Island ’s Main Street beginning in the 1890s. A skilled artisan, Kriesche imported German glassware and engraved it to order.

Kriesche’s shop offered a wide range of fine glassware including decanters, sets of dessert cups, bowls, beverage glasses and stemware. These were used on tables of Mackinac Island summer cottages or taken home to towns throughout the Midwest . Kriesche also offered a variety of keepsakes to other summer tourists. The most popular of these were items with a ruby red coloring. Kriesche engraved these with the purchaser’s name and date of their visit to Mackinac Island .
